Dual Credit Classes...

Burkburnett High School offers Dual Credit classes, which allow students to earn both high school and college credit at the same time.
The typical classes include History, Government, Economics, Comp 1 & 2, and College Algebra. The courses are taught online by a college professor, and the students have access to teachers at the high school if they need assistance. Also, the district pays a portion of the tuition.

If a student is interested in taking a Dual Credit class, he or she can make an appointment with Mrs. Selvidge to decide if the program is a good fit; if yes, the next step is picking up a packet with the Dual Credit enrollment forms and making plans to take the TSI placement test, which measures a student’s ability to succeed in a college level course. Once a student passes the TSI, typically given during the second semester of the sophomore year, the student can sign up for Dual Credit classes during registration for his or her junior and senior year.

State law requires public universities to accept dual credit courses; each university decides if the credit goes toward the student’s major or is credited toward their elective requirements. Private universities and out-of-state universities are not required to accept Dual Credit.
