Certification Requirements

Burkburnett ISD requires PRIOR TO CONTRACT that the following documents be in the applicant online file:
 
• Official transcript(s) showing all degrees earned.  It must not indicate on its face that it is for student use only. --or

• A completion letter from a college or university which verifies the degree and/or certification work has been completed and the date on which the certification application was made.

• Original Texas Certificate.  A TECAT sticker is required on all certificates issued in 1986 or before.

• Original out-of-state certificate if applicable. For more information, see Out-Of-State Certification below.
 
• An official deficiency plan from a Texas college or university if position for which applicant is being offered employment requires certification which the applicant does not possess.

Out-Of-State Certification

ExCET Test Info (Examination for Certification of Educators in Texas)

Teachers must register for, take and pass the appropriate ExCET tests within one year of employment.  Upon expiration of the Texas one-year certificate, the teacher must have successfully completed every ExCET and applied for the certificate.  There is a fee of $72 for each ExCET taken which will be paid by the teacher.  The cost of filing for the Texas Certificate is $75 and must be done within 30 days of receiving ExCET scores.

The minimum cost for an out-of-state teacher to become certified is $320.

Teachers not obtaining Texas certification for the assignment held within one year of employment will be terminated.
