A NEW WAY TO LEARN

At Burkburnett ISD, we work to transform education to help our students discover the value of learning. Over the summer a majority of our teachers completed training on Project Based Learning. Project Based Learning focuses on eight key elements. Buck Institute for Education says, "Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge."

The eight key elements break down like this.

  1. Key Knowledge, Understanding, and Success Skills -
  2. Challenging Problem or Question
  3. Sustained Inquiry
  4. Authenticity
  5. Student Voice & Choice
  6. Reflection
  7. Critique & Revision
  8. Public Report

Our goal with Project Based Learning is to prepare students for the real world with real world applicable projects. Teachers will collaborate to design grade level learning experiences that have specific skill development components embedded within the experience. The culmination of these projects or learning experience will result in the creation of some type of product or project that can be shared. This will instill confidence, drive, and a deeper level of learning in our students. We are excited to provide this new and innovative way of learning to our students.
