What are dual credit classes?
Burkburnett High School offers Dual Credit classes, which allow our students to earn both high school credit and college credit at the same time! The courses are taught online by a college professor and they also have a teacher at the high school assigned to help them. They earn credit to graduate high school, while also earning college credit.
There are lots of major pluses about this program, but the two main ones are:
- Your student start college already having college credit and college class experience.
- The district pays a portion of the tuition (!)
Do most colleges accept dual credit?
State law requires all public Texas universities to accept dual credit. But, out-of-state and private universities usually do not take dual credits. These classes are excellent for preparing our students for college-level course work. If your student is interested in participating in our dual credit program have them go see Mrs. Selvidge. They will need to pick up a packet with the Dual Credit enrollment forms and make plans to take the TSI placement test, which measures a student’s ability to succeed in a college level course. Once a student passes the TSI, typically the second semester of their sophomore year, they can look at signing up for Duel Credit classes their junior and senior year.
