Our sincere congratulations go out to Cheryl Brown on winning the Region 9 Elementary Teacher of the Year award!

Cheryl is currently a second grade teacher at John G. Hardin Elementary.  She is a 16 year teaching veteran, having taught 5 years at City View before coming to Burkburnett in 1999. She is a Burkburnett High School graduate and earned a BS in Elementary Education in 1994 from Cameron University.  In 2008 she completed a MS from Nova Southeastern University.

Semi-finalists for the state competition will be announced within the next few days and final judging takes place on September 4.  Winners will be honored at an awards ceremony on October 22 in Austin.

We are very proud of Cheryl for winning this Regional honor, and wish her the best of luck at the state competition.

The BISD Board of Trustees has been selected as the Region 9 Honor Board by the Texas Association of School Administrators 2010 School Board Awards Program.

TASA created the School Board Awards competition in 1971 to recognize those school boards that demonstrate outstanding service to the children of Texas using the following criteria: adherence to adopted board policies; support for educational performance in accordance with state-established standards; support for educational improvement projects; commitment to a code of ethics; provision of financial support for the school system; participation in workshops and other performance improvement programs; placement of the welfare of children served by the school system above personal or political motives; public relations efforts; and evidence of harmonious and supportive relationships among board members.

The winner of the state competition will be announced as the 2010 Outstanding School Board at the TASA/TASB Convention in Houston on Saturday, September 25, 2010.
