Also, we are entering Assessment Season and state testing will be here before we know it. Although we do not put ALL of our emphasis on STAAR, we DO want our students to perform well. With that being said, it's a good time to start talking to your child about giving best effort on all assessments. That is all we expect and I am sure that you share those feelings. The more we can have those conversations, the less stress, nervousness, or anxiety our students will have on test day. Our staff and students have worked extremely hard this year and we know that it will show in the data...if we get the best from our students on test day.
One area in which we are working to see growth in is Extended Constructed Responses (ECRs). Almost 2/3 of our students took a zero on this portion of the test. We have focused heavily on the writing process throughout this year, but we wanted to provide you with ways you can help support this process at home:
Extended responses ask students to read carefully, think about the text, and explain their ideas with evidence. Here are a few easy ways families can support this skill at home:
1. Ask “Why?” and “How do you know?”
After your child reads something, ask questions like:
Why do you think that happened?
How do you know? What part of the story helped you know that?
2. Encourage complete answers
When your child answers a question, encourage them to answer in a full sentence and explain their thinking, not just give a short answer.
3. Practice finding evidence in the text
Ask your child to point to the sentence or part of the story that helped them answer a question.
4. Talk about what they read
Simple conversations help students think more deeply:
Who was your favorite character? Why?
What was the main problem in the story?
What lesson did the character learn?
5. Read a little every day
Even 15–20 minutes of daily reading builds the vocabulary and comprehension students need for strong written responses.
6. Encourage writing about reading
After reading, ask your child to write 2–3 sentences explaining what they learned or what happened in the story.
7. Praise effort and thinking
Celebrate when your child explains their ideas, uses details from the story, or keeps trying when writing feels challenging.
As always, thank you for your continued support in the things we do here at ORE.

Monday, March 16 is a regular school day. We look forward to seeing our Bulldog students and staff!

Burkburnett ISD Bond FAQs
Q: The ballot says “This is a property tax increase”, but the district is saying the new tax rate will actually be below the current level. How so?
A: In 2019, a new law for school districts was imposed in Education Code 45.003(b-1), which adds an additional sentence to the ballot proposition: "THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE" The Texas Attorney General said this statement cannot be modified. Fact: Should both propositions pass, the District will be able to levy a tax rate below the current tax rate.
