Our S2S students did an amazing job in their "Leadership Escape Room." The students were mixed up, grouped up, and solved 5 puzzles together, which led them to the answer of the master question: "What is one of the most important things to know about leadership?" The answer- "We all can be a leader in our own ways." Our S2S students show leadership daily, and we couldn't be more proud of them.

Selflessness. It's what we teachers get to witness daily. Let me tell you about it. 2nd grader Braylen and another student got to choose a ball and both had their hands on the same ball. Braylen said, "You may have it." 3rd Grader Max 's squad won for squad points this 6 weeks and Max let everyone else in his squad go first to choose a prize. 2nd Grader Charli did the same this morning, by letting others choose a prize before herself. Charity and kindness at its finest here at our awesome John G. Tower Elementary!

Students in some of our 3/4th grade PE classes were given a Beef Lovin' Texans cookbook last week and were challenged to make one of the healthy dinners with their family. (Some have not gotten it yet due to the snow days.) I told the students they could send me a photo if they cooked something healthy from the cookbook, and I would post on our school fb page. Here is Brooklyn, who cooked Confetti Beef Tacos! Brooklyn said she used grass-fed beef and low-carb soft tortillas in her recipe. Here is Daniel, who is cooking Easy Baked Beef, Bean and Corn Quesadillas!

BISD would like to say "Thank you" to our amazing School Board. January is School Board Appreciation Month and we are truly Blessed to have the School Board members we have. Being a School Board member is oftentimes a thankless volunteer job. But our Board members view it as a true act of service to our students, staff, and community. Their vision has set BISD up for success and we could not be more appreciative of them.

Over the morning announcements today, we told the students that THEY are allowed to participate in the Polar Plunge! One detail is: a parent or guardian must jump WITH them! The details are right here, and it costs $25 (all proceeds benefit Special Olympics and BISD Unified) for students and $40 for parents. A lot of people dress up in costume to plunge! Here are the details if your child comes home and asks you to do the "Polar Plunge!"

Sweet Athea "voted" for who she wants to do the "Polar Plunge" on January 25th! Only two teachers will get to "plunge," according to how much $$ is in their bucket! We have told the students that all monies collected will benefit Special Olympics and the BISD Unified program! We would love for you to send some dollars or change for this worthy cause this week! Buckets will be in the cafeteria for breakfast and lunch for 1 week!

Did you know that a fast-food hamburger contains at least 33 grams of fat, about half of the day's suggested intake?! We have guest presenters in PE this week from the Wichita County Health District teaching facts like this! Our students are learning the importance of healthy eating! Students will be coming home with a large paper on which "My Plate" is featured along with recommendations for healthy portion sizes!

Due to hazardous roads, especially in our rural areas, we will be cancelling school for tomorrow, January 10th. Roads will refreeze tonight and will not thaw before our buses would leave for their routes. We realize it will probably be clear by 11:00 am, but that is too late to get kids to school safely. Stay Safe!
