🐾We are celebrating our ASL program and the opportunities it provides our students.
🤟Mrs. Boswell is our BHS ASL teacher and her love for American Sign Language began nearly 30 years ago when she took an ASL class at church.
🫶A Burkburnett native, Mrs. Boswell says it means a lot to be able to teach ASL at BHS and share something she truly loves with students in her own community.
🧡 In her classroom, Mrs. Boswell keeps things fun and interactive by incorporating school events, holidays, games, conversations, and real-life situations into her lessons. Students spend most of their time signing and communicating with one another. This year, she’s seeing firsthand how that extra practice is helping her students grow.
🌟A typical lesson is very interactive. We begin with a fingerspelling warm-up with a partner every day, followed by vocabulary or a new language concept. I model the language, but students quickly move into practicing it themselves through partners, small groups, or whole-class activities. Students might ask and answer questions, describe something, tell a story, or participate in a conversation using the target vocabulary.
🐾A major part of my classroom is the voice-off environment. Instead of constantly stopping to explain everything verbally, I use ASL, visuals, modeling, demonstrations, and written directions. This gives students an opportunity to learn how to understand and communicate in ASL rather than simply learning about ASL.

The BHS Cosmetology program welcomed aesthetician Brunette Wildridge, who spent time with seniors working toward their cosmetology licenses. Students learned about the importance of finding their passion within the beauty industry while gaining insight into the business side of building a successful career. Ms. Wildridge also demonstrated specific industry skills, including client intake procedures and the services offered within her profession.
Ms. Wildridge is a former student of BHS Cosmetology instructor Mrs. Lyn Doan and credits Mrs. Doan as an important part of her journey and success in the industry.
We are proud to provide our students with opportunities through our CTE department, to learn from successful professionals and gain real-world insight as they prepare for their futures! 🐾

Operation Homefront’s Military Child of the Year® Awards are now in their 19th year, recognizing outstanding military children ages 13–18.
Seven recipients will receive $10,000, a laptop, donated gifts, and a 3-day trip to Washington, D.C. with their families.
Children can be nominated by anyone who knows them, including teachers, friends, family members, or siblings. The program is free and open to children of active-duty, Reserve, National Guard, Gold Star, and retired service members.
🐾 We are asking Bulldog Nation to consider nominating an outstanding military-connected child. Last year, BHS student Raegan Bradbury was a semi-finalist.

We invite the community to line the streets for the parade on Wednesday. Make your way to the stadium for a pep rally after the parade, where parade winners will also be announced!

Free & Reduced Meal Applications for the 2026–2027 school year are due Wednesday, September 23.
The district will be completing a system rollover. Students who received free or reduced-price meals last year but do not have an approved application for the 2026–2027 school year will be moved to the paid meal status and charged accordingly.
This applies only to families who have not yet completed an application for the 2026–2027 school year.

Students learned about animal selection, genetics, breeding programs, herd management, and the importance of making informed decisions when selecting animals for production and performance. It was a great opportunity for students to see how the concepts we discuss in the classroom are applied in the real world.
A big thank you to Solo Select for taking the time to educate and share your knowledge with our students! We are grateful for opportunities like this that allow our students to learn, ask questions, and experience the agriculture industry firsthand.
It's Homecoming time! Over the next few weeks all BHS students have an opportunity to be part of an amazing tradition in Burkburnett by spending time together to build a Homecoming Float. This year's theme for the class competition is Fairytales!
On September 23, the community is invited to be a part of the celebration at our Homecoming Parade at 6:30 PM. Entries will lineup at BMS and the parade will begin on Ave D and end at Bulldog Stadium where a community pep rally will be held and the parade winners will be announced.
