Advanced Placement/Dual Credit Workshop

Above are photos from Friday, 19 Jan 24. I (along with my wife, IPHS teacher and female chaperone) took 12 cadets to OKC to perform for the OKS Warriors Hockey Team military appreciation weekend opening game. The teams were made up of both BHS and IPHS AFJROTC Cadets.
The Colors Team was an all-girl team in memory of Mary Anne Choi (hockey team owner) who recently passed away. The OKC Warriors is the hockey team that used to be here in W.F. The Colors Team was coined by Major General Winston P. Brooks (Ft Sill Commanding General) and Commanding Sergeant Major Neil H. Sartain.
The Saber Team provided a saber arch for the opening ceremony announcing the OKC Warriors team and starting lineup.
Prior to their performance the cadets met with the players and Cadet Colonel Presley Payne, TX-20008 Cadet Group Commander, briefed the players and coaching staff on the mission of JROTC.

Please join BISD in celebrating our amazing School Board. We will recognize them tonight at our regular Board meeting at 7:00 pm. Collectively, our Board has 70 years of combined service to BISD and the Community of Burkburnett. Five of our Board members have gone above and beyond and have completed the training required to become a Master Trustee.
Being a School Board member is oftentimes a thankless position, but we truly value the dedication and commitment our Board has shown over the years. They are Bulldogs through and through and exemplify The Bulldog Way! We say "Thank You" to Board President and Master Trustee Keith Myers, Board Vice President and Master Trustee Robin Bachert, Board Secretary and Master Trustee Les Healton, Board Member and Master Trustee Terry Klipp, Board Member and Master Trustee Frank Andrajack, Board Member Doug Smith, and Board Member Jimmy Beeson.

Wishing you a meaningful Martin Luther King Jr. Day as we honor his legacy of equality and justice for all.

Don't forget! No school Monday, January 15th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Just wanted to share a joy for our program. This past Saturday, BHS was represented by 9 students at ATSSB Area Auditions. This is the last step in their path to All-State Band. This is the highest number of students that have qualified for area competition as far back as we have researched. It is quite an accomplishment to qualify, since students need to place in the top 2-5 (Depending on the instrument) of the order in 4A at Region Band auditions. Unfortunately, none of the students were able to advance from Area to State, as they only take the top 1-4 performers. However, none of these students are seniors, so they will have the opportunity to try again next year! Please join me in congratulating these students on thier accomplishments

I am pleased to share that we finished strong at the 2024 Choir Area Auditions in Waco @ China Spring HS last weekend. All BHS Choir students placed well and not a single one of our 7 students were in the bottom ranks!
We have a Small School All-State BASS and 3 Alternates to the Choir!
This continues to add to our historical TMEA All-State showings and makes the first time that BHS Choir has had 4 consecutive years of All-State musicians in a row!
2.6% of students entering the TMEA process make All-State. This year Region 7 Vocal only received 4 of the 16 chairs (total) in the Central Choral Area Audition and we are blessed to have one of them. Truly, I cannot express how immensely proud I am of all these individuals for working hard and how excited I am for our All-Stater!
Join me in congratulating the following students:
(12) John Porterfield- 3rd Chair All-State Bass
(12) Elliya Datuin- 2nd Alternate, 6th chair Soprano
(10) Katie Miltner- 2nd Alternate, 6th chair Alto
(10) Thomas Veron- 2nd Alternate, 6th chair Tenor
(12) Cas Castillo- 9th chair Tenor
(10) Claire Longley- 11th chair Alto
(12) Lucas Lyne- 17th chair Bass
CONGRATS to ALL who participated at the Area Level.
Texas All-State process is tough, these students represented BHS with Excellence at every audition round!

Happy New Year! We are excited to welcome all of our students back Monday, Jan 8th! We hope you all had a restful break. See you Monday! Go Bulldogs!

Join Dr. Owen live in the new year, January 9th at 6 PM.
As a way to continue to provide opportunities for our community to provide feedback to our school district and superintendent, we will be hosting periodic town hall meetings through Facebook Live.
Please keep all questions focused on policies, processes, or facilities at the district or campus level. Dr. Owen will not be answering any questions about specific personnel or student situations. Dr. Owen will give a district update and then answer your submitted questions. Dr. Owen will end the town hall with a live Q & A that will allow you to ask questions in real-time. We hope you will take the time to join in on these town halls and we hope you find the information and format beneficial.

Burkburnett ISD is proud to announce we have promoted Patrick Williams to the position of Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. Coach Williams has served as the Defensive Coordinator for BHS the last three years and has exhibited a high level of commitment to our program. Coach Williams had 26 years experience at larger programs before coming here. We know Coach Williams will continue the good work started by Coach Brad Boyd and will support the improvement of all of our athletic programs.
