Dear Poetry,
From the first line we read to the last stanza we labeled, we knew something was different about you.
You taught us that words are never just words—they spark, echo, dance, and sing.
We listened closely for sound devices that made poems pop, and uncovered figurative language that painted pictures in our minds.
We learned how poets choose each word on purpose, how lines build meaning, how stanzas shape ideas, and how poems can rhyme on a pattern-or break free in free verse.
Inspired by Kobe Bryant’s Dear Basketball, we found our own voices, pouring our thoughts onto the page with heart, rhythm, and intention.
Poetry helped us slow down, look closer, and say more with less.
And just like that—we fell in love with poetry. 💛✏️

Our roads have shown much improvement today in town and outside of town. But it will get below freezing tonight. Therefore, BISD will have a two-hour late start for Friday, January 30th. Buses will run two hours late. First bell at 9:45 AM. This gives all of you extra time to get yourselves and your students to school safely.
We are so glad to receive our students and staff back to school!! We have missed you. Be safe in the morning and give yourselves extra time!

BISD will run a two hour late start for Thursday, January 29, with one big change. We will still not be able to run our bus routes outside of town. We will run routes in town, but they will change a little. The transportation department will put out info in the SMART TAG bus App.
The first bell will ring at 9:45 AM. We will drive the roads early in the morning and may need to cancel school if everything freezes solid again. We will make that call by 7:30 AM.
For our families who live outside of town, please use your best judgement for what is best for your students.
Leave your homes with plenty of time to take it easy.

Due to hazardous road conditions on our side streets and rural routes, BISD will be closed Wednesday, January 28.

Due to extreme cold and hazardous road conditions, Burkburnett ISD schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday, January 26.

Out of an abundance of caution due to the anticipated winter storm expected to begin Friday, we have decided to reschedule the Glow Dance to January 30.
If you have already purchased tickets and are able to attend on the new date, no action is needed—your tickets will automatically transfer. If you are unable to attend on January 30, please contact us, and we will be happy to issue you a refund.
Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to celebrating with you soon!

Dr. Owen will be live on the Burkburnett ISD Facebook page on Thursday, January 22, at 12:20 PM, with special guest Jody Littleton, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach.
If you have any questions for Dr. Owen, please submit them in the comment section on our Facebook post in advance, and he will address them live. Please keep all questions focused on district- or campus-level policies, processes, or facilities. Dr. Owen will not be answering questions regarding specific personnel or student situations. He will begin with a district update, followed by responses to your submitted questions. The huddle will conclude with a live Q&A, allowing participants to ask questions in real time.
Please note the daytime scheduling: Dr. Owen is filming during school hours so our video students can benefit from this hands-on learning experience. If you are unable to watch live, a replay will be available. We hope you will take the time to join these huddles and find both the information and format beneficial.
