Getting to Know Your Teen

ATTENTION FANS:
Here is the most up to date schedule to the 12th Annual Boomtown Showcase. Some times have been adjusted on Friday and Saturday to help teams that are traveling. All JV games will be played on the BSA soccer field next to the stadium so bring a lawn chair. All Varsity games will be at Bulldog Stadium.

This past Saturday, nine members of the Bulldog Brigade travelled to Ranchview High School to represent BHS at the ATSSB Area North Band Auditions. In order to qualify for this audition, they first had to place highly in the ATSSB Region Band auditions that were held in December. The following are the results for these students:
Jooeun Lee - 17th place Flute
Addison Ridgely - 13th place Clarinet
Addison Phillips - 19th place Clarinet
Emily Cove - 30th place Clarinet
Sienna Johnson - 33rd place Clarinet
Anaztazia Buhat - 7th place Horn
Isabell Brantley - 12th place Horn
Mallory Davis - 15th place Horn
Peyton Tolle - 1st place Euphonium
Please join me in congratulating these hard-working students on their accomplishment. In addition, Peyton's placement qualifies her for membership in the ATSSB All-State band, which will rehearse and perform in conjunction with the Texas Music Educator's Convention this February in San Antonio! This is the first all-stater for the Burkburnett band program since 2010, so it is a huge accomplishment.
Brian Beeson, Fine Arts Director
Head Band Director, Burkburnett ISD

We had 5 Area finalists in December when we left for break.
Four of these individuals gave up time on their break to attend the Tarleton Area Camp on Dec 27-28. One of our alternates got called up on our Snow Days and we ended up taking 6 Area finalists to compete in Waco, TX, at China Spring HS. This year was even more competitive because we changed the number of students competing from 24 per voice to 12 per voice. I'm very proud that we had anyone at all advance to Area because that alone is a great achievement!
Our final results are:
Thomas Veron 7th chair Bass
Katie Miltner 9th chair Alto
Caroline Rorabaw 10th chair Alto
Claire Longley 11th chair Alto
Kellen Peeler 12th chair Bass
Christian Youngblood 12th chair Alto
Please congratulate our Area finalists on their hard work and for exemplifying the Bulldog Way all the way to Waco! ( They received compliments on their behavior out in public at the restaurant and hotel!)
Christina Hallwachs
Burkburnett HS Choir/Guard Director

BISD would like to say "Thank you" to our amazing School Board. January is School Board Appreciation Month and we are truly Blessed to have the School Board members we have.
Being a School Board member is oftentimes a thankless volunteer job. But our Board members view it as a true act of service to our students, staff, and community. Their vision has set BISD up for success and we could not be more appreciative of them.

Schedule Update for Tomorrow's Dunkin Dogs vs. Eagle Mountain Games:
The boys' freshman game will begin at 5 PM in the auxiliary gym, followed by the boys' JV game at 6:15 PM in the main gym. All other games remain on their original schedule.

The soccer tournaments this weekend were canceled today for the boys and girls soccer teams. Both Varsity teams will play against Springtown this Saturday, January 11th in Springtown. The girls will play at 2 PM followed by the boys at 4 PM.

Due to hazardous roads, especially in our rural areas, we will be cancelling school for tomorrow, January 10th. Roads will refreeze tonight and will not thaw before our buses would leave for their routes. We realize it will probably be clear by 11:00 am, but that is too late to get kids to school safely.
Stay Safe!

All basketball games in Decatur for Friday, Jan 10 have been canceled. The Varsity games will be rescheduled for this Saturday, Jan 11. The Lady Bulldogs will play at 1 PM and the Dunkin Dogs with follow at 2:15 PM in Decatur.

Due to hazardous driving conditions, BISD will not have school today. We will notify you later this evening about Friday's situation.
Stay safe!

Out of an abundance of caution, BISD will delay the start of school tomorrow, Jan 9th exactly 2 hours from our normal start times. Buses will run two hours later than normal. We will assess the situation again in the morning and will call if we need to cancel school. If we decide to cancel, we will call by 7:30am.
